To all current and prospective members of the Raman user community:

Registration for the SA Raman Workshop 2017 is open!

Please find here the Registration Raman Workshop 2017 and SARW17_abstract_template. The information in the registration document is also duplicated below.

You are invited to register for the South African Raman Workshop 2017 taking place at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (http://stias.ac.za/) in Stellenbosch on 27 and 28 November 2017.

The first day’s talks will cover introductory Raman theory and instrumentation, followed by presentations highlighting applications of Raman spectroscopy to your solid state problems.  Speakers will focus on teaching the application and ‘how to’ with engagement from the audience encouraged, so that attendees can go back to their own labs and apply the knowledge learnt.  The second day will feature oral and poster presentations by the South African Raman spectroscopy user community.

Our invited speaker is Prof Howell Edwards from the University of Bradford in the UK. Prof Edwards is a very highly regarded Raman spectroscopist with interest in the application of Raman spectroscopy in characterization of biomaterials. He is the science team coordinator for biosignatures for the ESA ExoMars mission to search for life on Mars.

The standard registration cost this year will be R1500 per delegate, with the cost for students being R1000 per student due to a sponsorship from the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The cost includes all coffee/tea breaks, lunch, stationary and a late afternoon cocktail function on 27 November to discuss your Raman spectroscopy requirements with our various sponsors. Travel and accommodation costs will be for the attendee’s own account. We will also have poster sessions this year allowing for younger researchers to showcase their work and of course a poster prize!

Members of the SA Raman user community are invited to submit abstracts for oral presentations during the second day of the workshop, as well as poster presentations that will be available for viewing throughout the workshop.

Please complete the attached registration form as well as an abstract form if you intend to apply for an oral/poster presentation.  Application for an oral presentation is not guaranteed, but all will be considered for a poster. The program with accepted talks will be distributed once finalised.

We hope to see you there!
